Is failure necessary for success?

When speaking about success, people’s first thoughts are usually the step before–failure. We were always taught that “failure is the mother of success”, there’s no escaping it. You can’t reach success without failure; without failing that thing, or even failing yourself.

But have we ever asked ourselves this question: “Is failure really necessary to reach success?” Do we need to fail a thing over and over again until we master it?

Well, let’s break this down; “what defines success?”What is something that could be defined as successful to people?”

It is unrealistic to say that we need to master a certain thing to be successful, knowing that there are probably hundreds and thousands of people who do it a lot better.

Is this considered failing something? The answer is negative; if you know that the effort that you have put into this equals the result you get, then it is far from being a failure. Instead, this is what we call growth. What if it is quite the opposite, you have put a lot of effort into this thing but still ended up with a poor result? This is also called growth, just not as “fast” as the growth we usually see. We need to acknowledge the fact that all of us start somewhere and could end up with the same result, even if the results may seem poor now. Just because the outcome doesn’t reflect the effort, doesn’t mean the effort is wasted.

We can’t define what is true success to all of us; higher scores, more praise, more achievements. When yet still fail to realize what we have accomplished.

Instead of asking yourself if you have failed at something, ask yourself another way, “what have I learned throughout this process?”

We never fail in our life, people just define it that way. We can't define what outcome is the worst, what outcome is the best; everyone’s different.

It’s true that a journey to success may have struggles, which is the process that makes you learn throughout your journey, no matter how frustrating it may seem.

Some days you may feel you are at the peak, but the next day it might feel like the complete opposite, which is totally fine.

Your journey can’t and wouldn’t be a flat line, it is up and down just like how your heart beats, hinting you that a path to your own success wouldn’t be perfect. And could also be the result you end up with.

In the end, you define your own success. Setting a realistic goal to achieve and be satisfied with what you have achieved is also a part of your own fulfillness is more important.
