Nietzsche Sonnet

By: Tatiana C. (2024)

And those who danced were thought to be insane

By deafened who could not hear music play.

Through laughter, mockery, so cruel, so vain,

A judgment quickly strips them of joy and gay.

The pleasures of life within innocence,

With stupid happiness beyond compare,

When all they offered: solely dissonance,

And arrogantly ever so “aware.”

Embodying a pessimist’s big boast

Does not make one the greatest intellect.

Refuse to think–simply ponder at most–

Indifferent my heart shall I protect.

But must I add, optimism’s dreadful

Inflated happiness is a headful.
