Highlights from the second day at Nationals (12/03)

The second and last day at the AASB Final Four tournament was very eventful, to state the least. Both EABH teams participating in the tournament had their games scheduled for the same hour: 8am. The girls won their soccer match against British Barra by 2x0 and guaranteed third place in the competition, with a goal scored by Gabriela Carvalho (9) and another by Laura Calixto (99). Funny enough, Laura jokingly predicted our victory and her goal back at the hotel, at 6am. The boys unfortunately lost to Graded in basketball, final score of 32x65. After a very well-played season, they qualified for fourth place at Nationals.

The tournament was concluded by a closing ceremony in which podium teams received their medals – including our amazing Lady Hawks, awarded the bronze medal. Every collaborator of the event was thanked and celebrated (with two claps only, as the organizer so uncommonly suggested). A touching moment to applaud the seniors from all schools took place: they stood up and received an ovation. People said their goodbyes and went home.

The trip back to Belo Horizonte was quite troubling. In the followings of a motivational stop at McDonalds, things seemed to be going smoothly; unfortunately, at Congonhas airport, the flight back home was delayed multiple times. EABH flew at 10:35pm instead of 8pm. To ensure general relief, there was no need to change airports or stay yet another night in São Paulo as so many feared. After two intense days at the Final Four tournament, the Hawks returned to their nest.
