The War In Gaza And The Lives Of The Palestinian People

The war in Palestine/Israel is a major issue and threat to world safety to this day. Since the first Israeli-Palestinian war in 1948, both nations have been in conflict and dealing with repeating and almost constant wars. This conflict is now taking place at arguably its largest scale since it began almost a century ago. The living situation is deteriorating rapidly for both populations, but one group has been impacted far more severely. The Filastini people suffer daily while dealing with bombings, murders, and famine inside the Gaza strip.

A large part of the Palestinian population in Gaza has been displaced from their homes, many times more than once, leaving them homeless or living in tent cities.
One Filastini citizen, Mohamed Maalouf, reported to the Associated press news agency that he and his family had to flee their homes after bombings in their region.
“We are thrown in the streets, like what would I say? Like dogs? We are not like dogs. Dogs are [treated] better than us,” he said.
Other Palestinian citizens have reported similar conditions, fleeing with their families in the hope of at least finding a place to set up a tent to protect themselves from the weather. The bombings in Gaza city are not the only threat to the life of the Filastini population. Those inside the war zone are constantly under threat of major shootings, regardless of their innocence.
On a Saturday, this August, eleven Palestinian citizens were shot dead while standing in line for food aid. The citizens were not confirmed or even reasonably suspected to have any affiliation with Hamas, the terrorist organization fighting Israel in armed combat.
Despite its brutality, this is only one example of multiple injustices the Filastini people suffer daily. In this most recent war, which started on October 7th, 2023, and is still ongoing, more than 50,000 children have been reported injured or killed in the Gaza Strip. That means that on average, since the start of the war, the number of kids injured or killed ranged from seventy-one to seventy-two every day, which is unacceptable.
UNICEF reported that an Israeli attack ignited a school in Gaza City on fire, leaving the students and teachers trapped, and consequently causing the death of thirty-one people, including eighteen children.
In just sixty-nine calendar days, between the cease fire on March 18 and May 25, more than 1,000 Palestinian children were reported killed in the Gaza Strip. This number, in fact, goes as high as 1,309 confirmed deaths.
Unfortunately, the bombings and killings are not what makes the Filastini people suffer the most. The World Food Programme has confirmed the existence of famine in Palestine. This means that more than half a million Palestinians endure daily starvation, and many even die from malnutrition.
The famine in Gaza is extreme and widespread. By the end of this month (September 2025) 396,000, people are expected to be in IPC phase three, which is classified as food insecurity, a further 1.14 million people in IPC phase four which is considered an emergency, and in even worse famine 640,000 people are predicted to live in IPS phase five, which is classified as ”catastrophic levels of food insecurity.” (World Food Programme.)
The displacement, famine, injuries, and deaths the people of Falestine face are immense. Thousands of children are being placed in harm’s way, in most cases without a chance to survive where they stand or even to escape. The war between Palestine and Israel is a major global conflict that puts countless lives at risk in many different ways. For this reason, every effort should be made to inform people about the conflict and to advocate for a solution to end the continued Israeli-Palestinian wars.
