Why Saying a Truth That Hurts Is Better than Lying to Soothe

With no doubts, it is better to know the truth, even if it hurts a lot than to be told a lie just to be comforted. Many believe people should be compassionate enough to make others feel the best about themselves, even if they're not being entirely truthful. However, it is also strongly believed that honesty is the right thing to do, no matter how much it can hurt people.

Telling white lies to people can be acceptable if talking about something futile. Having said that, it is not a good idea to lie to people about something important. By believing false information, people can take the advice too seriously, which can affect them in different ways. When believing untruthful advice, people can be impacted by things such as having lower grades or more tangled hair than they would if they had received genuine feedback. Although lying can affect people in multiple ways, it is essential to know when to omit information. It is not a good idea to mislead someone on purpose, but sometimes, harmless lies are necessary. Despite knowing when to omit unnecessary information, it is important to remember that lying about something important is never a good idea.

Being untruthful to someone while trying to make them feel better may seem valid when thinking about the scenario where they believe it is true. However, there is always a chance that individuals will find out that the advice is, in fact, not sincere. When lied to, people sense a feeling of betrayal, causing them to stop asking for opinions from the liar. This means that no matter how much people lie, it can always come to light, leading to problems for both the person who lied and the individual who trusted them. If caught, the deceiver will no longer have the trust of the one who believed the fake counseling. All things considered, figuring out you were lied to hurts more than being hurt due to honest criticism.

Ultimately, telling the truth is better than telling what someone wants to hear, even if it means that the individual's feelings might get hurt.
