Some matches test skills, and others reveal identity. This first game between EABH and EAC was about proving our girls thrive under pressure, maintaining composure, resilience, and, most importantly, teamwork. The match opened with intensity, a rally that set the tone immediately. Both teams were fighting for control of the very first point, but our number 3 player, Alice Mol, ended that exchange with authority, delivering an attack that cut through the defense and established EABH’s presence early.
From there, rhythm began to build as serves became precise and confident, flowing naturally, yet the game reminded everyone of its human side. Mistakes appeared, as they always do, but they did not define us, as they instead became what brought our ladies together, learning from them and growing stronger.
EAC answered with their own serve, but EABH responded just as quickly. Julia Jorge rose for an attack that carried both power and precision, a jump capable of threatening any defense. That point represented a statement: that EABH, no matter the circumstances of their stability, gives it their all in any match.
Momentum continued to shift in our favor. Our amazing number 4, Nina, delivered a clean ace that energized the entire team, followed by a perfectly timed ball drop from our 14, Summer, whose awareness turned opportunity into execution. We never see our girls hesitate to take their chance, and it is beautiful to watch. Each action added pressure, and soon enough EAC was forced to call a time out, looking for answers to a team that played effortlessly with precision.
The second set just kept piling up all of the goods. Julia Ribeiro, our dedicated setter, stepped to the service line and delivered EABH a promise to never doubt the LadyHawks: FIVE consecutive aces that left no room for recovery. At the net, Brunna, our number 16, contributed with three decisive kills, while Julia Jorge added five more, reinforcing the offensive strength that overwhelmed EAC from the beginning.
I myself believe that this first game was crucial to determine the path we will be following for our first AASB volleyball tournament. And besides the competition in itself, it shows trust; the kind we owe to our outstanding and hardworking girls who always reach so far and do their best.
