After being accused of participating in a criminal armed organization, attempting to overthrow Brazil’s Democratic Rule of Law through violent means, plotting a coup, committing property damage, and harming protected heritage property, Bolsonaro faced trial before the First Panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

The ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Cristiano Zanin, Carmen Lúcia, and Flávio Dino voted for conviction, while Minister Luiz Fux voted for acquittal. With the majority decision, Bolsonaro's sentence marks a historic moment in Brazil's democratic history.
